A political plea
I’ve just received an email forward from my grandmother. Normally, these are inspiring stories of how God has worked in someone’s life, but this one was written as a personal letter from someone connected to missionaries in Africa; these missionaries claim to have seen the damage caused by Obama’s family (tribe) first-hand, and insist he is 1) Muslim with 2) terrorist ties.
I love my grandmother, but I’m done with fear-based politics, and have deleted the email.
The word "socialism" was cleverly placed in the body, and it "encourages" the reader to think about who he or she votes for. Perhaps that’s the only content of value: please think before voting. (Seriously.) Think about a country—or city, or neighborhood—motivated by respect and hope, rather than fear.
I’m not advocating that either of the candidates can or will provide this, but neither should be using fear to influence our decisions, nor should candidates running for any leadership role. Whether or not Obama is the right person to lead our country, I have a hard time believing he has terrorist ties, and that the media has covered this up. As for being Muslim…so what?
