Dancing bears
Kim and I made it out to several Grizzlies games this season. I can’t tell you who won any of them, but we definitely had a good time, highlighted by the antics of Parker, the awkwardly cuddly (?) team mascot.
I love that Grizzlies have committed to promoting the team in the off season by offering a series of humorous videos. That said, the promotion offers a few (small) lessons in how the web works…and how it could work better.
I read about the first video of the series via an email, which I believe included a link to YouTube. I didn’t have time to watch at the time, so I directly visited the Grizzlies site in search of said video. Immediately I found a link to a press release, but sans any links to the “digital short” it describes. - Size matters.
After clicking around a bit more, I came back to the Grizzlies home page, discovering a video player on the right side. Well…I found a fairly obtrusive red square, anyway. Clicking any of the five links below the player launches a video of Parker, but with no option to view it in a larger size (and though I have eyes like a tiger, the video is a bit small). - Spread it around.
As I mentioned above, I’m fairly certain the email I received included a link to YouTube, which is a hub for viral videos (and a great way to waste time). But the press release doesn’t link anywhere, and the video player described above doesn’t provide code for embedding elsewhere (like in this post).
Realizing that this may read as though I’m picking on the Grizzlies marketing team, I’ll repeat that I love the promotion, and I look forward to future installments.
